Preschool (3-6 years)

Where curiosity meets school readiness

The preschool years are when children build the independence, confidence and thinking skills they need for primary school – and a lifetime of learning. Our Preschool Room prepares children for the classroom while keeping the joy in learning.

The bridge to big school

The preschool years are a time of remarkable transformation. Your child is asking bigger questions, forming deeper friendships, developing a sense of who they are – and preparing for one of the biggest transitions of their young life: starting school.

But school readiness isn’t just about knowing letters and numbers. It’s about:

Through our Enquiry Teaching and Learning approach, we help foster your child’s curiosity by encouraging them to ask questions that lead to exploration. Our educators facilitate lessons and activities while allowing children to explore the various sides and possibilities of a question.

Our Preschool Room develops all of these – through play-based learning, rich experiences and intentional teaching that prepares children for the classroom while keeping the joy in learning.

THE 6 AREAS WE NURTURE

Six building blocks of school readiness

Everything we do in the Preschool Room is guided by our S.M.I.L.E.S. methodology – ensuring your child’s development is nurtured across six essential areas. Here’s what each looks like for preschoolers.

Sensory

What it means

Even in preschool, sensory experiences remain important. Children learn best when they can touch, manipulate and experience concepts directly.

How we develop it

We provide hands-on learning experiences across the curriculum – from science experiments to art projects to mathematical manipulatives. Abstract concepts become concrete through sensory engagement.

Motor

What it means

Preschoolers are refining both their large movements and their fine motor control – skills they’ll need for writing, sport and everyday tasks at school.

How we develop it

Our MindSport programme develops fundamental movement skills, while activities like drawing, cutting, threading and building strengthen fine motor control and hand-eye coordination.

Intellectual

What it means

Preschoolers are ready for more complex thinking – problem-solving, reasoning, making connections and thinking critically about ideas.

How we develop it

Through our Enquiry Teaching and Learning approach, children investigate questions, explore possibilities and discover answers. We emphasise understanding over memorisation, and curiosity over compliance.

Linguistic

What it means

Preschoolers are developing the language and literacy foundations they’ll need for school – from phonics and vocabulary to the ability to express complex ideas.

How we develop it

Our Reading and Writing programmes develop genuine literacy skills through engaging, meaningful experiences. Children explore letters, sounds, vocabulary and storytelling – building both skills and a love of language.

Emotional

What it means

Preschoolers are developing the ability to manage their emotions, persist through challenges and navigate the social-emotional demands of a classroom environment.

How we develop it

We help children understand and manage their emotions, building the resilience and self-regulation they’ll need for school. Our 100% Respect, Zero Fear philosophy creates a safe space for emotional growth.

Social

What it means

Preschoolers are forming genuine friendships and learning to work collaboratively – skills that are essential for thriving in a classroom.

How we develop it

We create opportunities for collaborative projects, group problem-solving and cooperative play. Children learn to share ideas, resolve conflicts and work together toward common goals.
