Reading Programme

Reading with confidence, understanding and joy

Our approach is built on more than 25 years of research into how
young minds actually develop. It’s designed to nurture confident,
curious, creative thinkers who are ready for school – and for life.

Reading isn't just a skill. It's the foundation for everything else.

Reading opens doors. It’s how children access knowledge, understand the world and succeed at school. But more than that, it’s how they develop imagination, empathy and the ability to think deeply.

The challenge is that learning to read isn’t simple. It’s not just about sounding out letters or memorising sight words. True reading ability means being able to:

Many children learn to “read” in the technical sense – they can sound out words on a page. But they struggle to comprehend what they’re reading, or they find it tedious and frustrating. That’s not real reading. That’s just decoding.
At MindChamps, we take a different approach. We don’t just teach children how to read. We help them become readers – confident, curious and genuinely engaged with books and stories.

FOUNDATIONS OF CONFIDENT READING

The eight building blocks of confident reading

Reading is far more than recognising words. Our programme builds eight interconnected skills that together create fluent, confident and deeply engaged readers.

Engagement

What it means
Children who enjoy reading become strong readers. Engagement is about forming a real connection with stories and caring about what happens next.
How we develop it
We make reading joyful and expressive, using stories that spark curiosity and emotion. When children are engaged, progress accelerates naturally.

Active Understanding

What it means
Skilled readers think as they read—predicting, questioning and connecting ideas.
How we develop it

By integrating reading with writing, speaking and listening, children discuss and reflect on texts, building lasting comprehension skills.

Narrative Intelligence

What it means

Understanding how stories work—sequence, cause and effect, character motivation—and knowing how to ask meaningful questions.

How we develop it

Through immersive and theatrical strategies, children step inside stories, analyse them and relate them to their own experiences, strengthening higher‑order thinking.

Phonemic Awareness

What it means

The ability to hear individual sounds in words—the foundation of phonics.

How we develop it

Children tune into language through playful, meaningful sound activities that make phonics intuitive.

Phonics

What it means

Understanding how letters and sounds connect, enabling children to decode unfamiliar words.

How we develop it

Our Say & Sing Phonics method uses music, rhythm and context so children can experience sound–symbol relationships in memorable ways.

Engagement

What it means

Reading smoothly, accurately and with expression, allowing focus to shift to meaning.

How we develop it

Rhyme, rhythm, repetition and songs help children internalise the flow of language and read aloud with confidence.

Vocabulary

What it means

A broad vocabulary expands understanding and communication.

How we develop it

Stories, rhymes and wordplay introduce new words in meaningful contexts.
Our Read‑Along app extends vocabulary learning beyond the classroom.

Structural Awareness

What it means

Understanding how words form sentences and how sentences create meaning—an intuitive grasp of grammar.

How we develop it

Through rich language experiences—conversations, stories, poems and songs—children absorb language patterns that support both comprehension and clear expression.

HOW IT WORKS IN PRACTICE

What your child will experience

The MindChamps Reading Programme isn’t about worksheets and drills. It’s an engaging, immersive experience that makes reading feel like an adventure, not a chore.

In our reading sessions, your child will:
Every session is designed to be enjoyable and meaningful. Because when children enjoy reading, they read more. And when they read more, they get better. It’s a virtuous cycle that creates lifelong readers.

Give your child the gift of reading

Confident readers become confident learners. If you’d like to learn more about how the MindChamps Reading Programme could support your child, we’d love to show you.
